Kent Kiehls laboratory has worked diligently along with correctional facilities in New Mexico and beyond to establish the worlds largest database of brain data from incarcerated populations. We utilize a state of the art mobile scanning unit which can be deployed to remote locations, reaching populations for which functional brain imaging might otherwise be impossible or severely impractical. These resources and relationships have been instrumental in the investigation of mental health issues that are particularly prevalent in those who are incarcerated, including psychopathy, antisocial personality disorder, substance abuse, and externalizing disorders. We maintain several ongoing projects with an overall goal of achieving a better understanding of the interaction between brain function, genetics, and environmental factors ultimately informing improved interventions and prevention strategies and promoting better mental health as a whole.

Natalia Chechko's research group investigates neuroscientific and bioscientific aspects of various psychiatric disorders, including depression, schizophrenia, anxiety disorders and autism spectrum disorder. Cerebral dysfunctions in women of reproductive age who suffer from affective disorders, e.g. postpartum depression, psychosomatic illnesses or chronic pain disorders, are a particular focus. The aim is to record emotional and cognitive dysfunctions multimodally in order to enable early detection and predict the response to therapy in affected women. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is used to analyse cerebral dysfunctions during visual, olfactory and nociceptive stimulation. Psychological test procedures and laboratory measurement techniques, such as blood serum analyses and hair sample analyses, are also used. Other influencing factors such as genetic disposition are also taken into account.

Tom Denson is a Professor in the School of Psychology at UNSW. He is an experimental social-personality psychologist. His primary research focus is on the causes, consequences, and prevention of anger-driven aggression.
Anger and aggression are serious problems throughout the world.
The research in his lab has helped us understand the causes of these phenomena and how they can be regulated. He and his students, international and domestic collaborators attack the problem from behavioral and biological perspectives. His lab has investigated anger and aggression between strangers, romantic partners, and physical and sexual aggression toward women.
His lab has also studied alcohol-related aggression and is at the forefront of discovering brain systems involved in alcohol-related aggression with the help of a grant from the Australian Research Council.
